Accredited Employment Mediation Training

Employment mediation is one of the most effective and cost efficient mechanisms for resolving workplace disputes and conflict. EBPS Accredited Employment Mediation Training is designed for professionals who wish to develop the knowledge, capacity and skills to effectively manage workplace conflict.

This programme is accredited by The Mediators’ Institute of Ireland (The MII), and participants who successfully complete the programme and its assessment are eligible to apply for MII Certified Mediator status.

Summary

Mediation is a skills-based process, and this programme is tailored and delivered by expert mediators who bring their practice experience and hands-on knowledge of employment mediation into the training.

This is a highly interactive training programme with an emphasis on the planned and organised development of knowledge, skills and awareness. Training methodology includes presentations and input, interactive group discussions, small group work, simulated role plays, case studies and skills-building activities. There is also course reading and an optional, MII approved assessment. It is a very practical training course, delivered by those who practice in the employment mediation field and who have a wealth of experience in employment mediation.

Course Aim

This seven-day mediator training programme (+ assessment day) is suitable for those who wish to practice as a mediator with an emphasis on workplace mediation. Successful completion of this programme and assessment will enable you to practice in most areas of mediation.

Course objectives

  • To develop a theoretical understanding of mediation and alternative dispute resolution
  • To understand the process of mediation and the skills associated with the different stages of mediation
  • To build the requisite knowledge, capacity and skills for effective mediation
  • To raise awareness of personal biases and assumptions and their significance in mediation / conflict management
  • To demonstrate knowledge and application of ethical guidelines and principles in mediation
  • To actively promote participant learning and reflexivity
  • To understand the importance of supervision in developing competence and confidence.

Successful completion will require:

  • Attendance – 80% minimum
  • Role-play assessment in line with MII standards and procedures (optional)
